Nepal Packing List
Nepal Packing List
Packing depends on season, route and comfort level. Kathmandu heritage walks, Pokhara lakeside time, Nagarkot sunrise and Chitwan jungle activities all need slightly different preparation, but most travelers benefit from light layers and practical walking gear.
A shorter Nepal tour is easier when luggage is simple. Domestic flights may have tighter baggage limits than international flights, so carry only what you need and keep valuables in hand baggage.
Suggested Items
- Comfortable walking shoes
- Light jacket or fleece
- Modest clothes for temples
- Reusable water bottle
- Personal medicine
- Power adapter and power bank
- Copies of passport, insurance and tickets
- Sun protection and light rain layer
- Small day bag for sightseeing
- Hand sanitizer and basic first-aid items
Route-Specific Advice
For Kathmandu, pack clothes that cover shoulders and knees for sacred places and shoes that are easy to remove. For Pokhara, add a light layer for early Sarangkot sunrise and casual clothes for lakeside evenings. For Chitwan, pack breathable clothing, mosquito protection and shoes suitable for nature activities.
For Nagarkot or hill viewpoints, early mornings can feel cooler than Kathmandu city. Lumbini can be warm and exposed, so sun protection and water are important.
Documents and Money
- Passport and copies
- Visa or entry documents if required
- Travel insurance policy
- Flight and hotel confirmations
- Emergency contact details
- Some cash in Nepali rupees for small payments
- Cards or payment method accepted by your bank abroad
Packing Advice
Avoid overpacking for short tours. A smaller bag is easier for hotel changes and domestic flights. Keep passport, medicine, valuables and one change of clothes in hand baggage.
If you are joining a group departure, label your luggage clearly and keep your phone charged on transfer days.
